X-Caliper tab

The X-Caliper tab contains features for measuring machined material. All features will be summarized on this page but each hyperlinked feature can be clicked on to see a more detailed description for more information.

Feature/History or Information group

If accessed through Vericut Simulation files, this will be the Feature/History group. If accessed through VCS or VDAF files, this will be the Information group.

  • Feature/History or Information — This button is used to obtain the various measurement data of the selected feature, model, ply, or machine and the associated NC program history. The button will be Feature/History for Vericut Simulation files and Information for VCS and VDAF files.

  • Model Thickness The Model Thickness option is used to measure the thickness of solid stock material.

  • Air Distance The Air Distance option enables you to measure the air gap between two solid surfaces.

  • Plane to Point The Plane to Point option is used to select two points on a material to analyze the distance between them.

  • Plane Angle The Plane Angle option is used to select two points on a material to analyze the angle between them.

  • Axis to Axis The Axis to Axis option is used to select two points on a material to analyze the distance between parallel holes.

  • Diameter/Radius The Diameter/Radius option is used to select any point on the wall of a cylinder or hole to analyze the distance from that point to the opposite end wall of the cylinder or hole.

The following Feature/History features are all exclusive to Vericut Simulation Review files:

  • Closest Point The Closet Point option enables you to determine the shortest distance from an XYZ point location to the closest point on the model surface.

  • Stock/Design Distance The Stock/Design Distances option is used to measure the distance between the cut stock and the design model.

  • Volume The Volume option calculates and displays the following volume values for a selected stock workpiece: current cut stock volume, original stock model volume, and volume of material removed from the original stock model.

  • Center of Gravity The Center of Gravity option is used to report X Y Z values of the calculated center of gravity point for the current cut stock model.

  • Highlight Plane/Cylinder The Highlight Plane/Cylinder option is used to select a plane and have Vericut highlight all "cut" features that lie in the same plane.

  • Scallop The Scallop option is used to measure the height of a scallop formed by two parallel intersecting cylinders.

The following Information features are all exclusive to Vericut Composite Simulation Review files:

  • Peel Off Layer When a location on a tape ply is selected, the Peel off Layer command button enables you to make selected composite layers invisible in order to see what is underneath them.

  • Course Gap/Overlap The Course Gap/Overlap option is used to analyze gaps and overlaps between courses of composite material.

  • Cumulative Gap/Overlap The Cumulative Gap/Overlap option is used to analyze the sum of gaps or overlaps over a certain distance.

  • Steering Radius The Steering Radius option is used to analyze tows of composite material, within a specified region, to ensure that they do not violate the Steering Radius value specified in the NC program that laid them.

  • Tow Packet The Tow Packet option is used to analyze individual tows within a selected tow packet.

  • Fiber Direction The Fiber Direction option is used to analyze the courses in the top-most layer that lie within a specified region are sampled and measured against a specified angle and tolerance value.

  • Stagger The Stagger option is used to measure the course stagger (minimum offset distance) between layers of same “fiber direction”.

The following Information feature is available in VCS and VDAf files, but not Vericut files:

  • Stack Thickness — The Stack Thickness option enables you to determine the number of components in the stack, the thickness of each component, and the overall thickness stack at a specified point. Click here for VCS Stack Thickness or here for VDAF Stack Thickness.

Distance/Angle group

The Distance/Angle command buttons are used to measure the distance and/or angle between any combination of two points, planes, conic axes, model or component origins, or edges formed by intersecting planes or cylinders. See Distance/Angle section for more information on using these buttons.

Hole Depth

This group is only available when Reviewer is processing Vericut Simulation files.

These buttons enable you to measure the depth of a hole or of a chamfer. See Hole Depth sectionf or more information on using these buttons.

Settings group

The Settings group displays relevant information to what X-Caliper feature is currently being used. By default, the group shows what units are being used for measurement along with the most recent measurements taken but what information is displayed here can change to include more information depending on which X-Caliper feature is active. See Settings group section for more information.

Dimensions group

The command buttons in the Dimensions group enable you to set, edit, and delete labels. See Dimensions group section for more information.
